Yvonne Myers, Bass
Yvonne Myers' musical journey with the string bass began unexpectedly in the summer after 5th grade. Initially intending to play the flute or clarinet, she spontaneously listed "BASS" as a third choice on her interest form, inspired by a friend. This decision delighted music teachers in her hometown of Longmont, as string bass players were a rarity.
From being too small to even lift her instrument in that first summer orchestra, Yvonne's passion for music grew, leading to a nearly 30-year tenure with the Fort Collins Symphony. Her high school years were filled with orchestra and band performances, including the State Honor Orchestra and the Mid-Western Music and Art Camp.
At Colorado State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a Gerontology Certificate, she continued to play in the Orchestra and joined the Wind Symphony. It was during college that she was invited to join the Fort Collins Symphony. She has fond memories of playing for 17 years of annual Nutcracker Ballet performances with Canyon Concert Ballet, as well as numerous summer concerts at venues like Anheuser Busch, Hewlett Packard, Library Park, New West Fest, and Fourth of July City Fireworks Celebrations. Even during her two years in California, she played with the Ventura County Symphony.
Throughout her career, Yvonne has contributed her talents to a wide variety of musical groups and events, including Christmas and Easter services for many churches, a decade of Messiah Sing-alongs, small ensembles, baroque groups, St. Luke’s Church Bach Festivals, and the Larimer Chorale. Currently, she remains active, playing with the Fort Collins Wind Symphony and the Stover Street Stompers, a Dixieland jazz band.
Yvonne deeply values the universal connection music creates, appreciating all the musicians, conductors, and audiences who have shared their talent, knowledge, and passion with her.
